About

Who is Behind 100 Braid St Studios

Braid Studios is a creative force rooted in community, connection, and courage. As a 100% Indigenous-owned arts organization, we exist to support and celebrate artists through mentorship, co-working studio space, and opportunities to share their work with the world.

We operate across three locations—two in New Westminster and one in Port Coquitlam—offering flexible studio spaces and creative resources for over 50 multidisciplinary artists, musicians, writers, and artisans. Our artists range from emerging voices to established professionals, each working in a wide variety of disciplines, including painting, sculpture, digital and mixed media, printmaking, performance, music, and literary arts. Our model is non-traditional by design: a hybrid of studio, mentorship hub, and arts incubator that meets artists where they are and helps them grow.

The Braid Loft

321 Sixth Street, New Westminster

Our public-facing space, The Braid Loft, is home to over 25 creatives working across a range of disciplines—painting, sculpture, digital art, writing, music, and more. Each artist has a dedicated studio, offering space for deep focus and creation while remaining part of a larger, supportive collective.

The Braid Loft is also where we connect most actively with the public. We host Open Studios on the first Saturday of every month, welcoming guests to tour studios, meet the artists, and experience work in progress. Throughout the year, we organize art shows, workshops, and mentorship opportunities that deepen engagement between artists and the community. We’re proud to participate in the annual New Westminster Cultural Crawl, and we continue to explore new ways to invite the public into the creative process.

The Braid Annex

New Westminster

Just a few doors down from The Loft, The Braid Annex is a private, working studio space not open to the public. It’s home to a focused group of visual artists, a music group, two videographers, and several nonprofit organizations that use our offices as a base for creative and community-driven work. The Annex offers a quieter, more behind-the-scenes environment where professional practice and collaboration thrive.

The Port Coquitlam Atelier

Port Coquitlam

Our Port Coquitlam location is an intimate studio home to a visual artist and a textile artisan who hosts workshops and creative gatherings in the space. This Atelier provides a peaceful, inspiring setting for hands-on learning, reflection, and artistic exploration.

The Braid Studios Online Community

In addition to our physical studio spaces, we’re building a vibrant online community throught the Circle Platform designed to support artists wherever they are on their creative journey. This is where, the over 100+ artists who have been part of Braid since 2013 stay connected and we want to welcome you too.  Our community platform offers connection, resources, and professional development opportunities for artists across the region—and beyond.

  • The Studio Commons is our free community space, open to all creatives. It’s a place to connect, share, and stay inspired.

  • The Core Circle is designed for creatives looking to deepen their focus and grow their art careers, with added benefits like discounted art supplies and canvases, and access to exclusive content and conversations.
