Contemporary Abstract Artist
Now based on Gabriola Island, BC, Deb Chaney maintains gallery representation across Canada and the United States, and has collaborated with international creatives on a range of public art projects.
Alongside her studio practice, she leads workshops, engages in community-based initiatives in her local arts community, and offers private mentorship to artists. She maintains a strong connection to Studios through the Network.
Biography
Deb Chaney is a contemporary abstract artist, speaker, & workshop facilitator. Self taught, with a B.Sc. in Earth and Ocean Sciences, she began her artistic journey after taking a number of workshops with artists whom she admired, and then selling and exhibiting her work at outdoor fairs and coffee shops in California where she began her career as a painter.
Originally from Vancouver, BC, Deb moved back in 2009 and since then has been named by Vancouver City Buzz and Culture Trip as one of the top 10 contemporary artists to watch in Vancouver. Recently, her work was chosen to be reproduced in 3-D to be sold and distributed worldwide through Arius Technologies in Vancouver, BC.
Her artwork is held in private collections world-wide and in corporate collection including the Hilton Hotel. Featured in Style At Home Magazine, The Georgia Strait, thrice on the homepage for Saatchi Online Gallery, in Rainmaker Films, Telus TV and in TV Commercials, she is currently represented by D2Art and Sala Interiors in Los Angeles.

Artist Statement
My painting process often begin with a palette knife in hand and inspiration from my life & spiritual journey.
Hours, days and sometimes months later, after applying and taking away layers of acrylic paints & mixed media – ranging from sand, polymer mediums, oil sticks, pastels, collage, spray paint, and pencil crayon – on either heavy paper or canvas – a painting emerges, with its own story, its lessons, and the healing gift of its creation.
Through my multi-layered abstract artwork, I invite you pause, feel, and connect within yourself. My aim to serve you in cultivating simultaneous feelings of inspiration and groundedness.
