Artist Statement
The intersection of visual art and architectural representation is an area of investigation in my art practice. My finished work is primarily with oil paint on canvas, but my artistic investigations usually begin with pencil drawings, graph paper and coloured pencils.
I like to use a grid as a compositional device, developing a simplified geometric language to dissect and reassemble the architecture of the public buildings that are my subject matter.
I employ an abstracted use of colour that is both playful and considered. In more recent works I’m exploring contrasting scales of the pictorial elements to create dynamic compositions.
